John,

I've looked it over and I believe WEND going down is superior.

(I've been avoiding reading anything substantive in others' posts, so forgive me if these explanations have already been given.)

The big plays for the opponent with the Z are reduced (e.g., cannot readily hook a bingo below it, and DIN going down from the D will require a vowel and consonant, whereas the ZEE across we create if we play WEND across will allow a high scoring two-vowel dump.

Now the game is a virtual tie, and has great openings for our S and blank, and we have a wonderful leave. I'm very happy with this choice, and only wish I'd had a vowel this turn, so I wouldn't have had to wait to enjoy the satisfaction of playing my bingo.
