I know this isn't about SOWPODS; however, there may still be a few among the remaining with functional brains who can recognize the glow of a candle lighting up the dark night of Scrabble=A9's Middle Ages. For eleven years Scrabblers have gathered together in Indianapolis to play games and raise money for first EAster Seals and now the CCFA which covers Crohn's disease and Colitis. 36 of us trekked to the atrium of the Hyatt Regency in beautiful downtown Indianapolis on Saturday. Actually, we were only one-third of the total group... the Gamesfest also included compulsive-obsessive players of euchre and trivial pursuit. We played under the skylight with no protection from the hordes of shoppers and wannabes. We played without the protection of the semi-professional shushers who have grown to prominence in our sphere over the years. In short, we played for fun. And had some. Actually, we had a lot of it. I highly recommend it to the less anal retentive among us as a fun day in the middle of that big country town out in the middle of that big ole field over there in Indiana. Here are the results, thanks to director Jerry Miller whose primary goal at the annual tournament is too insure that the tournament is relaxed and fun and not overwhelmed by uptight and intense folk who have often proved in the past that it is possible to screw up a wet dream.

was because she couldn't stand the prospect of losing her soul.'"
