Subject: Re: Mike Wise, in memoriam
Many have posted remembrances of Mike Wise, with testimony about how considerate and judicious he was. I knew Mike only casually--LEGP, Superstars, and one Toronto tournament--but all I have read fits; he added greatly to the game in ways that matter most.
I am especially grateful to Mike for something not Scrabble-related at all. Last September, my oldest son turned 16, and as a lark Connie and I decided to treat him to a trip to Toronto, to watch a taping of the Red Green Show. Airplane tickets were easy, but there wasn't a hotel room to be found--some mammoth convention had infested the city. I e-mailed Mike, and he rocketed back word of a B+B where travelers to Toronto tourneys had stayed, and darned if they didn't have a space. Connie and John made the trip, and returned all grins.
