2001 Michael Wise Memorial SCRABBLE® Tournament

(Toronto's 22nd Annual SCRABBLE® Players Tournament)

NEWLY ADDED: 7-game Leah Katz Memorial Early Bird on Friday, September 28th. First game starts at 9:30 A.M. Two divisions split at 1500, no playing up. Entry Fee CA$30/US$20. Format TBA. 70% cash prizes.

What?

National Scrabble Association Club #3 will be hosting its 22nd annual tournament this fall, an open SCRABBLE® Brand Crossword Game tournament.

September 1st NSA Ratings will be used to assign players to four divisions: A (1700+), B (1400-1699), C (1100-1399) and D (0-1099). Players within 100 points of the next higher division may play in that division at their request and the director's discretion. Pairings in each division will be modified Swiss, based on penultimate round results.

No less than 56% of the entry fee will be returned in prizes, with no less than 30% going to the winner of each division. Entry fee includes snacks and coffee on Saturday, lunch and coffee on Sunday.

The tournament will be co-directed by John Chew, Lisa Deift and Lisa Kessler.

When?

Saturday, September 29th, 2001: seven games starting at 9:15 A.M.
Sunday, September 30th, 2001: five games starting at 9:00 A.M.

If you're travelling from out-of-town, you might want to look at our list of hotels. Several Toronto Scrabble® Club members can also offer hospitality to out-of-towners competing in the tournament. Please indicate smoking preference, parking requirements, special food needs and arrival and departure times.

How?

Send entry fee of CAD 45.00 (CAD 40.00 only if received by September 12th) or USD 35.00 (USD 30.00 by September 12th) to Lisa Kessler, 302-150 Balmoral Avenue, Toronto ON M4V 1J4 by Friday, September 21st, 2001. Please include your name, telephone number, address, valid NSA membership number (unless this is your first tournament) and preferred division.
