Demo Player's Customised Scrabble CD-ROM Dictionary
Dear Demo Player,
Thank you for your purchase of a customised dictionary file for the
Hasbro Scrabble CD-ROM. To install it on your computer, here's what
you have to do.
Macintosh Users
- Follow the instructions that came with your CD-ROM to install the
Scrabble program on your hard disk.
- Open the folder that contains the hard disk copy of your MacScrabble
application icon, and create a new subfolder named DAT, if there isn't
already one by that name.
- If there is a dictionary file named WORDLIST.DAW in your DAT folder
and you want to keep it, copy it somewhere safe.
- Copy your new dictionary file, WORDLIST.DAW,
into the DAT folder. For technical reasons, this file may be named
'wordlist.daw.bin' when you download it, but please remove the '.bin'
at the end and save it under the name 'WORDLIST.DAW'. Do not try
expanding it with StuffIt Expander. Important: if you do not
put the WORDLIST.DAW file in the DAT subfolder of MacScrabble's folder,
or if you don't run the hard disk copy of MacScrabble, the new lexicon
will not be recognized.
- Some users have reported that the WORDLIST.DAW file must be in their
MacScrabble folder and not the DAT folder. If you find that
this is so, please let me know.
Windows Users
- Follow the instructions that came with your CD-ROM to install the
Scrabble program on your hard disk.
- Look for the directory (folder) that contains the SCRABBLE.EXE
(Scrabble) program, and create a subdirectory (subfolder) named
DAT, if there isn't already one by that name.
- If there is a dictionary file named WORDLIST.DAW in your DAT directory
(folder) and you want to keep it, copy it somewhere safe.
- Copy your new dictionary file, WORDLIST.DAW,
into the DAT directory. For technical reasons, this file may be named
'wordlist.daw.bin' when you download it, but please remove the '.bin'
at the end and save it under the name 'WORDLIST.DAW'. Important:
if you do not put the WORDLIST.DAW file in the right directory, or run
the right copy of SCRABBLE.EXE, the new lexicon will not be recognized.
To check that you've installed your dictionary file correctly, open
up the Word Lister window and check for the presence of words that
you know should or should not be in the particular dictionary you've
installed. Do not rely on the definitions file to check the program's
active vocabulary, as I do not modify the definitions in any way.
Your dictionary file contains one phoney word that can be used to identify
you as the purchaser of this file. The word starts with two X's and should
not affect game play, but may appear in the word list window.
If you have problems downloading or installing the dictionary,
send me e-mail; in any case, please let me know when you've finished
downloading the file, so that I can remove it from my web site.
If you're satisfied with your new dictionary, please tell your friends.
If you're not, then please let me know how I can make it more useful
to you.
John
