Subject: CNSC 2000 general mailing #1

This mailing is going out to all of the 50 players who have registered for the 2000 CNSC and who have e-mail addresses, as well as to the two alternate players (Mike K and Gene R). I believe the following players do not have e-mail addresses:

George Macaulay, Joe Peters, Leon Fernandes, John Robertson, Mike Ebanks, Hilda Schlechter, Mike Krepakevich

If you can pass on a copy of this to them, please do so and let me know that you have done so. I will otherwise be contacting those seven players myself.

[I've since found people willing to pass on messages for everyone except George M and Hilda S.]

Things are starting to heat up in the planning for the event. I have been working for a while now with Denise Burke, my new counterpart at Hasbro Canada, and she informs me that the first press release will go out this coming Monday to alert the media as to what's going to be happening, followed quickly by the usual press kits.

The tournament will be run more or less the way the 1998 event was. In particular, as you should already know, it will be in the same place, starting and ending at the same times. Most importantly, please be sure to arrive between 6 and 7 P.M. (and preferably not too close to 7 P.M.) on the evening of Friday, November 17th, for the registration and opening reception. We should be done by no later than 7 P.M. on Sunday night, and if you are sure you won't be winning any prizes, your last game may be over as early as 5:30.

You can find a detailed schedule on the web at

http://www.scrabble-assoc.com/tourneys/2000/csc/sched.html

This and other CNSC web pages will be moved over to the NSA site some time next week, but if you bookmark them now, there will be links to the material in their new locations. [This has already been done, and the above link updated accordingly.]

I need some information from each of you, mostly for publicity purposes:

  1. Your current address and phone number. (I've probably got them, but I'm asking just in case you've moved and I don't have your new contact information.) The phone number you supply will be given out to hometown media upon request.
  2. A current photo, preferably digital. If you are a past competitor, I will use the one I have on file from you unless you send me a replacement.
  3. Your date of birth. Publicity materials will mention only your age, but if I have your birthday on file, I will not have to ask you again in future.
  4. Your current occupation.
  5. A sentence or anecdote about yourself, not necessarily SCRABBLE®-related, that you don't mind seeing in print, and that will catch a reporter's eye.

If you have any questions that need a prompt response, please feel free to call me anytime between 10:00 A.M. and 10:00 P.M. ET at 416-876-7675. Questions whose responses can wait indefinitely can as usual be sent to my e-mail address, poslfit@gmail.com. That phone number is my cell-phone number, and may be given out as an emergency contact number during the event. Please also be sure to take it with you on Friday the 17th, to call in case you are going to be late arriving at the tournament.

See you all soon,

John
