We started off the five days of crossword game play that are the BRAND's Crossword Game King's Cup on Wednesday night, with a scenic cruise up the Chao Phraya river. About half of our hundred players arrived in town a day early to join us, meeting at the Chimney Cafe for a few hours of Thai food, a one-round tournament, karaoke and camaraderie.
The Thai side reclaimed the trophy in the traditional Thai vs. International match, with Arun Methaset leading his side to a 13-7 rout over Tony Sim's (SGP) international players.
As for the karaoke, it looked to me like a close victory by the Philippine side over the Thais.
On Thursday morning, the Siam Paragon mall opened at 10:00 A.M. and by about 10:15 A.M., the playing area was full of players. After a slightly hectic registration period due to a scheduling error with the site setup crew, we got Round 1 underway with 98 players at 11:30.
