I've done some more checking of the position I posted about from Marlon's game earlier, where Marlon has drawn the Y and played BYE a1 and is beating Maven by 21. (In the actual game, Maven already had the Y, but I've been looking at the case where it had a V instead of a Y.) If I understand Marlon correctly, he has asserted that the resulting position is "all but unwinnable" for Maven. Hope I'm not misstating his assertion.
I said that Maven wins 6/21 games after Marlon plays BYE. After playing out all the different positions, I now revise that: Maven only loses 1/21 games -- namely, if it draws KU from DEEEKPU. That's a full 20/21 games it wins!
Below, I show all the positions that would result and a winning endgame for Maven for each. There might be better endgames than those shown (that is, endgames which would give Maven more spread), but Maven can do no worse than what I show below, according to my optimal endgame-finding program. It crashes when Maven draws KU, sadly. Wish I had time to debug it. Thus, Maven might even win upon drawing KU.
Clearly, Maven's cheating algorithm really slipped up here. It should never have given itself the Y: it should have known to give Marlon the Y and itself the V. This way, it would have (almost) guaranteed itself victory.
