I vote for 12a JADES because the synergy of the LD leave (after JANES or JEANS) isn't worth a 2 point sacrifice over LN in my opinion. Another factor that would favor either JADES or JANES over JEANS is the placement of an E at 12D instead of a consonnant. It will be somewhat easier to bingo on row 11 and we need to maximize our chances of a strong comeback. We are likely to be down by a few points if opponent uses either the A or B columns and without row 11, our comeback chances are limited. (Especially if we don't draw an A, E, S or Y). Additionally, after a draw of 5 tiles, there is a good chance opponent has a clunky rack and will make some sort of 3 tile blocking play at 13b. JANES and JADES may be a little better than JEANS for this reason also.

I vote for 12 a JADES. Rich Baker, 1942
