We break after this lunch for coffee, tea, sandwiches, croissants, and BRAND's chicken essence. The playing styles and speed in such a cosmopolitan group are so varied that some players have finished their games before others are even ready to begin, and given that two notoriously pensive players are facing each other at Board 1, it's not surprising that Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (THA) and Jason Katz-Brown (USA) gather a large crowd of onlookers as the round draws on. They're used to it, and the crowd is well-behaved, if close.

Jason ends up beating Pakorn 522-447, dropping Pakorn to second place behind Panupol Sujjayakorn (THA), who had a 467-432 win over Thacha Koowirat (THA). Together with them at 9-2 is Siu Hean Cheah (SGP) after a 582-321 blowout against Charnwit Sukhumrattanaporn (THA).

In fourth place is Chris May (AUS), whose +1036 spread is the highest in the tournament at this point.

Pachara Tritipthanakul (THA), rated 1532, beat Nawapadol Sayavesa (THA), rated 1950, 389-381 this round, the greatest rating upset so far, and the only time a player rated 400+ points lower has beaten his opponent. 67% of the games played so far have gone to the higher-rated opponent, and the usual 55% to the player who goes first.
