    Commentary: Round 23

    [ ]

    Go to: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Round 4, Round 5, Round 6, Round 7, Round 8, Round 9, Round 10, Round 11, Round 12, Round 17, Round 18, Round 19, Round 20, Round 21, Round 22, Round 23, Round 24.

Pairings for the final round were among the most challenging I've worked on, and if I can ever get TSH to support them, I'll make this round a validation test.

Nigel Richards's (NZL) win at the live-stream board (commentary by John Chew and Emma Lee-Tubby) clinches first place for him and second for Lukeman Owolabi (Sco). They are both Gibsonized, so they play each other.

Craig Beevers (Eng) is in third place, but has to be Beeversized: prevented from playing opponents in contention because he is an official playing only to keep numbers even. The remaining prizes are: third place, for which Theresa Brousson (MLT) and Sam Kantimathi (USA) are contending; placings (overseed) prize, for which most players are still in contention but notably not Philip Nelkon (Eng) or Helen Gipson (Sco), because they are well below seed; Class prize B1, for which Elisabeth Jardine (Eng) and Simon Gillam (Sco) are contending; Class prize B2, which could go to one of these two, or one of Mihai Pantis (ROM) and Raymond Tate (Sco); Class prize C1, clinched by Eileen Meghen (IRL); or Class prize C2, for which Ewa Kondracka (POL) and Jim Wilkie (Sco) are contending.

Craig therefore is Beeversized against Helen.

Theresa plays Sam for third place; the loser gets nothing.

    Eileen is Gibsonized against Philip.

Elisabeth plays Simon, Mihai plays Raymond to determine the Class B prizes.

Ewa plays Jim with the winner getting Class prize C2 and the loser getting nothing.

    I hope that is clear.
