We got off to a punctual start despite continuing uncertainty as to the player roster, with annotator Bryan Priest stepping in to even up numbers in the lower division so that the designated alterate would be able to play until a player who cannot play this afternoon can join the event in progress, and with one Nigerian player reportedly en route but not yet on site.

The Pergola Hotel staff have continued to be exceedingly helpful, proactively taking steps to ensure the smooth running of the event, bringing things out of storage for us, offering to bring food and drink to staff, and just keeping an overall eye on things to make sure that everyone is happy. All the players that I have spoken with have said that this is the best Maltese Scrabble venue so far in the history of the European Open and MISO.

To complicate matters a little though, TD Amy Byrne and I are in separate rooms this weekend, with Amy running Division B upstairs in the Adenau Room and me running Division A downstairs in the Vistana Room. It looks like it will run fairly smoothly, but I will be getting a good deal of exercise running up and down the stairs.
