Hikaru no Go is a shonen manga about a young boy (Hikaru) who gets hooked on the game of Go when he encounters the thousand-year-old spirit a Go master (Sai). After repeated nagging from Michelle, I got Kristen to pick up the first five volumes at Kinokuniya (?) in Manhattan, and then bought volumes 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14 and 15 at Sasuga Books near Boston and 7 and 13 at Kikiwai in Toronto. Kikiwai says that #16 is out now, but I haven't yet picked it up.
I came down with the 'flu in Boston, which was okay, because it gave me time to read up to #11, but bad, because Michelle insisted that I translate episodes #10 and #11 to her over the phone (I think there are scan-translations available up to #9 on the web). And I was working on a case of laryngitis. So to save my voice, here's Book 12. Translation Copyright © 2002 by John J. Chew, III. Spoiler warning: The Pro Qualifier ended at the end of Book 11. Don't read on if you don't want to learn first-hand how Hikaru fared in it.
