A player brought it to my attention that several sets of tiles in play this weekend, with black letters on an orange background, are inappropriate for competitive use. Due to an apparent manufacturing defect, some of their tiles have a large raised circular bump on the back side that can easily be felt. Directors and players are advised to keep an eye out for similar tiles.

Three of the leaders in A win their games, and are now on 9-3: Lukeman Owolabi (Sco) +829, Chinedu Okwelogu (NGA) +673 and Helen Gipson (Sco) +646. That's two Scots and two Nigerians. Behind them are five players on 8-4: Evan Cohen (ISR), Chris Lipe (USA) Howard Wilde (Eng), Steve Polatnick (USA) and Jayne Mackenzie (NIr).

In B, all three leaders win their games, so now on 10-2 are Maureen Hoch (ISR), Sammy Mangion (MLT) and Osaghaede Omijeh (NGA), their rankings unchanged. They remain a game ahead of Mario Seychell (MLT), and two games ahead of Eileen Meghen (IRL) and Brid Ni Bhriain (IRL).

Lunchtime. I get another smoked salmon and tuna carpaccio plate from the Cave Bar and bring it back to my desk.
