Dan Sandu (ROM) and Naomi Landau (ISR) were playing when Naomi made a three-tile play, picked up the wrong end of a zip-style tile bag and dropped two tiles out. Without thinking, Naomi put them back in the bag, despite a WESPA v2 rule to the effect that spilled tiles are considered drawn. Naomi saw that the tiles were an O and a T; Dan saw only the T. There is no WESPA v2 describing what should happen when tiles are improperly returned to the bag.

After consultation between Amy Byrne and John Chew, the following ad hoc ruling was made. Naomi should receive back her T. An O should be drawn from the bag for her and placed faceup on the table together with two randomly drawn tiles, and Dan should choose which of the three she got (for the record, he chose an N from among NOV). Then Naomi should draw her seventh tile and play should resume.

Discuss.

Just heard from organizer David Delicata (MLT) that Ogedengbe Olawale, whose friend in Nigeria had assured us that he was on the way and would just be a few hours late, did in fact book a flight to arrive on May 21, the day after the event ends.

Steve Polatnick (USA) beats Evan Cohen (ISR) 420-378 and is now the only undefeated player in A.

Sammy Mangion (MLT) beats Osaghaede Omijeh (NGA) 406-289 and is now the only undefeated player in B.

Anlaug Frydenlund's (NOR) 375-369 win over Nancy Alroy (ISR) now means that everyone in A has had at least one win. Likewise in B, the last winless players both won their games: Brigitte Brath (DEU) 415-352 over Judith Puttick (Eng) and Pawlu Frendo (MLT) 396-308 over Philip Turner (Eng).

High loss of the division so far: Nicky Huitson (Eng) 458-514 to Bob Violett (Eng).

Low win of the division so far: Phil Kelly (Eng) 364-361 vs. Sanmi Odelana (Eng).
