We begin the round with four players on 6-1: Chinedu Okwelogu (NGA), Sam Kantimathi (USA), Jean McArthur (USA) and Raymond Tate (Sco). Chinedu beats Ray 435-342, Sam loses 357-479 to Cecil Muscat (MLT), and Jean loses 423-476 to Howard Wilde (Eng).

Chinedu ends up 7-1 +982, ahead of eight players on 6-2: Sam, David Eldar (AUS), Chris Lipe (USA), Jean, Martin Waterworth (AUS), Ray, Steve Polatnick (USA) and Cecil.

Time for tea, held on the La Valle Al Fresca terrace directly above the tournament room, with the most spectacular view I've ever seen from a tournament tea break.

Along with tea, coffee and fruit juice, there were ham sandwiches and two types of qassata*.
