The first final game between Komol Panyasophonlert (THA) and Nigel Richards (NZL) takes place on the BRAND's King's Cup stage, and is replayed on the Crossword Transformer robot board beside the stage, and also projected from the live website for the benefit of the audience. Kristen Chew announces the moves and provides light commentary; a challenging task given that she has to keep the viewers entertained while not giving away anything to the players, who can't help but hear everything she says.
Komol gets down the first bingo, GRAVIDAE through A; Nigel JETSOMS (72); Komol REPLYING (78) through Y, NeDETTE (75); Nigel IVORiED (81). Nigel scores much better on his non-bingo plays (8h ABASHING through ABASH and N was a pretty way to score 42 points) on the way to a 440-399 victory.
If Komol wins the next game, the finals will continue in a third game, with the championship going to the player with the higher three-game total.
