I apologize in advance that this commentary is going to be a little haphazard, at times brief, and too much from my own point of view. We were under extreme time pressure to get the event up and running in an hour from mall opening, and even once things were underway, it's just in the nature of an international event like this that there are a lot more than the usual number of director's calls that reduce the amount of time available for building the website.

Play began a little chaotically, missing table numbers and score slips, and with some uncertainty as to who was present, but we will make up the schedule during the lunch break after round 2. It looks like we have 85 or 86 players from 12 countries this time, including World Champions Nigel Richards (NZL) and Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (THA). The largest contingents, aside from the 29 representatives of host country Thailand, are the 11 Australians, 8 each from Malaysia and Nigeria, and 6 each from Singapore and Phillipines

Two director's calls this round. Akkarapol Khwansak (THA) and Apirat Choomai (THA) started their game by checking distribution but not overall count, and realized after the bag was empty that they were missing two. They played out the game with 98 tiles, and will replace the missing EI between rounds.

The other was to ask how to switch the Zyzzyva word adjudication machine out of Thai keyboard mode. (Answer: push the button with the green sticker on it, above the JUDGE key.)
