Director's call: explanation of "flash-drawing" ("fast-bagging"). Under WESPA rules, recording the score before drawing a replacement tile is unethical and entitles the opponent to challenge your play, possibly triggering an overdraw penalty.

NASPA readers should note that effective June 27, 2012, pre-recording the score will now be permitted again in North America.

Director's call: Player A called hold. Player B did not hear. Player A started to look the play up in the cheat sheet. Player B drew tiles. Player A decided he wanted to challenge.

Ruling: denied. Player A must make sure the hold is clearly communicated, and repeat the instruction more clearly if the opponent's behaviour indicates that they have not heard.

Director's call: underdrawing mid-game, not after an exchange.

Ruling: no harm, no foul, just draw from the bag.

Director's call: the board where last round an O, S and T were played from the adjoining set of differently coloured tiles is found to have an extra S this turn. The players, despite having been instructed to do so, did not count the tiles before starting the game.

Ruling: play out the game with 101 tiles.

Marut Siriwangso (THA) scores a 642-340 win over Karen Richards (AUS), the high game score so far, but only the third-highest spread.
