It's the last round of the morning, and we have Nigel Richards (NZL) vs. Neil Green (Wal) at the feature board, commentated by Siobhan Robbie and John Chew. Neil comes the closest that anyone has so far to beating Nigel, losing by a scant ten points, but the champion remains undefeated. Three games behind: Alastair Richards (AUS) (no relation); 3.5 games behind: Conrad Bassett-Bouchard (USA); 4 games back: Edward Martin (Eng) and Weibin Toh (SGP). Nigel is sucking all the win out of the room. It's time for a lunch break for the players. For me, I don't even have time to get changed into a more video-friendly dress shirt before I'm asked to emcee and commentate a stream of 888.com Director of Marketing and Strategy Gareth Edwards and his friend Jen Von Stroh playing out their customary daily game of Scrabble, today on the feature board. It's an amusing and challenging experience, trying to make a non-expert game of Scrabble look interesting for the viewers, and encouraging the players without interfering with the game or revealing too much of what's on their racks. The players made it easier, as they were enjoying themselves and had a good history with each other. |
