Alastair Richards (AUS) and Sam Kantimathi (USA) face each other at the annotated feature board; I (John Chew) am commentating solo, as Rachel Riley is off covering poker events this hour. I feel a bit punchy by the end of it, due to the intensity of multitasking, following the online forum, not taking my eyes off the board video feed, keeping the scoring correct, developing hypotheses about what tiles the players hold given the imperfect transmission of racks, all while keeping up a voiceover about how the game is progressing. I'm going to try adding to this next round, by doing results data entry, mainly so that I can have access to my own laptop and its copy of Quackle.

Alastair beats Sam, 468-363 and now has a one-game lead over Graham Haigh (Eng) and Weibin Toh (SGP) in the race for the €2,000 second prize. Behind them by another half game going into the lunch break, and not out of contention, are Helen Gipson (Sco), Conrad Bassett-Bouchard (USA) and Adam Logan (CAN).
