Thacha Koowirat (THA) had a nice late game play against Phuttaphong Moolasarn (THA) this round. Holding AEINRST, he didn't want to play RESINATE ending just above a triple, or LATRINES/LARNIEST# beside the triple, and instead had the guts to play B-RAN-CH-IEST. He said he was "90% sure" it was good. We have to tear down completely tonight and move to a new, much larger location that can accommodate the weekend amateur and school divisions, as well as a royal appearance at the opening ceremony for those events. A good 15 minutes after the penultimate game finishes, Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (THA) finally beats Panupol Sujjayakorn (THA) 405-390 in a closely fought game. (Pakorn is well-known as that rare Thai player who does not play quickly.) Jason Katz-Brown (USA) beats Lukeman Owolabi (NGA) 498-439 and ends the day the only player at 10-2. In second place, at the top of six players at 9-3, is Charnrit Khongthanarat (THA). Charnrit has one more point of spread (1073) than Jason. The rest of the six are Nigel Richards (NZL), Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (THA), Charnwit Sukhumrattanaporn (THA), Marut Siriwangso (THA) and Adrian Tamas (ROM), no big suprises there. I've received the handicapping data for the event: players are assigned from 0-14 handicap points, which are added to their record, counting a win as two points, a tie as one point and a loss as zero points. Prizes will be awarded to the players with the top three handicapped records, provided they don't win any of the top three regular prizes. I apologize to Jason Katz-Brown (USA) for assigning him a handicap of -10 until this round, purely for test purposes. Handicap points can be viewed under tsh Reports, in round-by-round ratings. |
