Because of the tight schedule (students need to get home), the finals get underway on the stage before I arrive with my laptop to start posting it, but the paper annotators have only recorded one rack each. Phew.

It's Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (THA) and Charnwit Sukhumrattanaporn (THA) for USD 6000 and Pakor plays first. Pakorn is wearing a borrowed jacket over his T-shirt. Charnwit is meticulously turned out in a pinstripe suit and tie, as he has been all day. The speakers are blaring out "The Final Countdown" on infinite repeat quite loudly.

The finals are a best-of-three, but with a twist. Win the first two games and you're the King's champion. Split them and the Cup goes to the player with the higher total three-game cume, regardless of wins.

I'm doing the annotation myself, so live commentary will be minimal here.

After fishing DIALYSER/ORD with PILLAR, Pakorn turns to Panupol Sujjayakorn (THA) and mimes wiping the sweat off his brow. Charnwit ignores the tell.

Charnwit appears to miss FAUX playing FAX instead, and it costs him dearly as his rack is clogged with Is, Us, Vs and Ws for the rest of the game, while Pakorn gets the Es, Ss, Ts and blanks.

Pakorn wins the first game 412-393, and needs to win only one more game for the cup.

Words freely challenged: SNARER, HOLIDAYS, DIALYSER, ZIBET, GONG.
