We decamp tonight and move to a venue large enough for the 50-player weekend amateur division and the 7000-player school championship. Ravee has gone off for an hour to buy more word judge laptops for tomorrow, leaving me in charge of the event. I noticed in editing the Round 6 nailbiter between Charnrit Khongthanarat (THA) and Panupol Sujjayakorn (THA) that the annotated record appeared to give Panupol the game instead of Charnrit. I discreetly looked over Charnrit's shoulder at his three-round scoresheet and noticed that it agreed with the annotation in everything but the value of his last play. Ravee remembered that the annotators hadn't seen the end of the game and had had to ask the players what happened, discreetly asked Panupol about the placement of the last play, and his correction confirmed the player's version of the outcome of the game. This round it's Charnrit, still undefeated, against Nawapadol Sayavesa (THA) at Board 1. Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (THA) ended up beating Nigel Richards (NZL) 441-411, so I offered to re-pair them a few more times. Pakorn demurred, suggesting that he'd prefer to do so at the end of the event. Charnrit Khongthanarat (THA) is dethroned after a six-game run in first place, losing 359-408 to Nawapadol Sayavesa (THA). Marut Siriwangso (THA) remains undefeated at +494, after a 488-463 win over Panupol Sujjayakorn (THA). |
