We got off to a surprisingly smooth start this morning, given that the Siam Discovery Mall, in whose atrium we are playing, did not open until 10:00, giving us an hour for IT setup before the scheduled start of 11:00. In the end, that slid back to the originally planned 11:15, but we'll make it up over the lunch break if people eat quickly. Most players are present or accounted for. We had the usual few no-shows, four Thai players who played their games yesterday knowing they couldn't get away from work in the morning, and three more who have shown up or will show up late for the same reason. I think this leaves us 63 players (assuming the absentees arrive as expected), down a little from last year due to last month's civil unrest, but still enough for an interesting tournament. This round's pairings randomly match the top quartile against the third, and have placed Nigel Richards (NZL) and Michael Tang (MYS) at Board 1. Board 1 games will be posted online with about an hour's delay. Nigel beats Michael 534-346 and enters the lunch break in fifth place, behind Kamol Tienkarojanakul (THA) +301, Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (THA) +289, Jason Katz-Brown (USA) +203 and Weeranee Tanasanvimol (THA) +198. |
