The playing area is arranged in three rows of six tables, with a single game on each front row table, and two games on each of the rest. We have four undefeated players in the front row: Nigel Richards (NZL) at Board 1 playing Komol Panyasophonlert (THA), David Eldar (AUS) and Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (THA) at Board 2, and Charnwit Sukhumrattanaporn (THA) playing Jakkrit Klaphajone (THA) at Board 3. We could have as many as five undefeated players after this round. If we were playing pure Swiss, everyone in front would be undefeated, but this round is paired based on Round 2 standings to keep the tournament moving quickly. Already, the first result each round usually comes to my desk around when the last game is getting underway in the current round. Pakorn stays on top at 4-0 +650 with a 485-416 win, followed by Panupol 512-420 over Graham Buckingham (Eng) 512-420 and Charnwit 385-359 over Jakkrit. Komol upset Nigel 440-365 to knock him down to fifth place, behind Taewan Sutthasin (THA). We had two new high losses this round: Pichai Limprasert (THA) to Chris May (AUS) 447-466 and Thacha Koowirat (THA) to Siu Hean Cheah (SGP) 446-535. The latter game isn't quite the highest combined score so far; that was Panupol Sujjayakorn (THA) vs. Kian Hung Yeo (MYS) 595-413 in Round 2. |
