Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (THA), playing at Board 2, has climbed to the top of the event with his third victory against a strong countryman, Jakkrit Klaphajone (THA), 453-348. Next round, we'll see if he can continue to prevail against David Eldar (AUS), who's now in sixth place and next to last among the as yet undefeated players. In between them are Nigel Richards (NZL), Jason Katz-Brown (USA), Panupol Sujjayakorn (THA) and Charnwit Sukhumrattanaporn (THA). It's only a mild coincidence that these six players are the members of the field whose WESPA ratings are above 2000. A big part of winning a big tournament is being able to consistently crush mere expert players, and these guys can all do that without breaking a sweat. Lagging only a bit behind them is the last of the undefeated players, Kian Boon Liew (SGP). The players aren't as fresh as they were to begin the day, and required a bit of encouragement to return to their games after this round, but we're still doing well with our schedule. We don't have a sound system blasting out the catchy dance beat of the Crossword game theme song this year, and I'm afraid to ask why. We do have a well-stocked merchandise table that is doing fairly good business with passersby, and there is a steady stream of curious onlookers stopping by to see what's going on. |
