Play has resumed for our last day, with all players present and accounted for, and only one who arrived late by two minutes. We play three rounds of Swiss, three rounds of KOTH, then a modified best-of-three finals. According to the local tournament design, Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (THA) will play third-ranked Odette Carmina Rio (PHL) this round and next at Board 1; second-ranked David Eldar (AUS) will play fourth-ranked Marut Siriwangso (THA) twice at Board 2, and Board 3 will see fifth-ranked Komol Panyasophonlert (THA) playing seventh-ranked Pichai Limprasert (THA) this round and eighth-ranked Charnwit Sukhumrattanaporn (THA) next round. Pakorn and David are 16-5, Odette is 15-6, Marut, Komol, Ming Hui Hubert Wee (SGP), Pichai and Charnwit are 14-7. Nigel Richards (NZL) has started finding blanks again, and is leading the players at 13-8 after a five-game winning streak, but is locked out of playing any of the higher players for two rounds, so his chances of reaching the finals are slim. David gets honourable mention for the oddest request made of me so far at this tournament: he called me over and asked if he could have a button for his side of the SamTimer he and Marut were using. What a primadonna. (I was able to pull one off of another timer and press it onto his without too much difficulty.) Pakorn has made a tsh feature request, which I will have to consider carefully. He would like player photos to show facial expressions that reflect their likely moods, based on recent W-L history or standing. I will give this some consideration, and have to decide whether to try to take photos of players when they are in different moods, or try to digitally alter existing photos. I may have to do the latter, as Pakorn is currently unable to pose without a broad grin on his face. Bob Jackman (AUS) managed to overcome a 188-point deficit to win 446-408 against Thanapong Kukiettikulchai (THA), thanks to the 167-point triple-triple UNIVERSE. The winners at the top of the field this round were the happy Pakorn, David, Pichai, Charnwit and Nigel (over Chollapat Itthi-Aree (THA)). That means that Pakorn and David have opened up another two-game lead at 17-5 over Pichai, Odette and Charnwit. Marut, Nigel, Komol and Hubert are another game back at 14-8. |
