Odette Carmina Rio (PHL) reports playing AAEINRZ through -LI- against Kian Boon Liew (SGP). See the bottom of this column for the word she played. Warodom Geamsakul (THA) scored the low win of the tournament so far, beating William Wu (TWN) 329-221. Panupol Sujjayakorn (THA) beat Ming Hui Hubert Wee (SGP) 572-391, Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (THA) beat Siu Hean Cheah (SGP) 462-414 (despite a not unusual minute overtime), and Charnwit Sukhumrattanaporn (THA) beat David Eldar (AUS) 406-398, so the top flight at 7-1 is down to only those three winners, in that order. The tournament is continuing to attract the attention of bystanders, which is slowing down my coverage a little bit, as I seem to look like I'm approachable and happy to talk about the event, which I guess I am. One Israeli ended up talking with me about digital SLRs for twenty minutes, and a German television reporter was fascinated and wanted to know more about the German NSC and about Scrabble activity in Washington (D.C.), where she'll be posted later in the year (I gave her Stefan Fatsis' email address). As both of them were youngish and I'm told attractive, Ravee has kindly taken photographs of me with them and offered not to email them to my wife Kristen for a fairly reasonable price. The mall sound system is playing more of a dance music mix today, which is making my typing go faster than yesterday's instrumental piano tunes. Only one rules adjudication this round: mutual accusations of annoying behaviour (spinning a pen in a distracting manner, and using a stinky marker). We break for lunch after this round. Lunch for me looks like a Thai take on katsu-don. (Odette played ALIZARINE, also good without the final E.) |
