The fundraising raffle ran a little bit late, but we were underway with the first of three rounds after lunch only about fifteen minutes late. New this round on the website: a Facebook "Like" button on the main event page. I will roll them out on the rest of the pages as time permits. First results: Mikki Nicholson (Eng) 522 Tony Sim (SGP) 445, Mary Morgan (IRL) 406 Geoff Cooper (Eng) 325. Division AChinedu Okwelogu (NGA) decisively beats and eliminates fourth-ranked Femi Awowade (Eng) from contention at Board 1, 394–456–363. Siu Hean Cheah (SGP) retains his second-place position a half-game behind Chinedu with a 486–459 win over Helen Gipson (Sco), so it's all over for Helen. At this point, all Chinedu needs to do to prevail is win one of his two remaining games, so he has a 75% chance to be the champion. Cheah has to win both of his games, so he has the remaining 25%. Division BMario Saliba (MLT) loses to Andy Gray (Eng) 286–394. He thought he was heading for a win when Andy bingoed out and caught Mario with QZNNGLR. That puts Andy in an even better position than Chinedu, as he now has two games and exactly 200 points of spread over Daniel Milton (USA), so Daniel has to win two games while also making up that spread. |
