Division A

The first result in is the most important one: Siu Hean Cheah (SGP) beats Chinedu Okwelogu (NGA) 422–363 at Board 1. I'm first alerted to this game finishing by the sound of Chinedu methodically shredding his game scoresheet into the waste receptacle; the board is long since squared off into 5x5s. Cheah and Chinedu will play each other in the final round for the top prize.

In fact, as it only took them 30 minutes to finish the first game, they're going to start the deciding game right now.

Commentary may be slightly delayed this round, as I've decided to annotate this game myself whil doing data entry.

Cheah has the lead, on 16½ wins +1017. In second, Chinedu, 16 +556. In third, Evan Cohen (ISR), 15½ +766. Then come Howard Wilde (Eng) and Mikki Nicholson (Eng), both on 15, +1069 and +976. Prizes are paid down to third place, and Evan will play Howard next round, so it will take at least 16 wins to finish in the money, and everyone from sixth place down is out of the running.

There is also a rating class prize, which goes to the top finisher among those who started rated in the lower half of the field. Kevin Synnott (Eng) is 13–10 -60, and seven lower-half players are on 12 wins: Cecil Muscat (MLT), Charles Micallef (MLT), Jackie McLeod (Eng), Adam Kretschmer (AUS), Duncan Keet (ZAF), Dan Sandu (ROM) and Chris Keeley (Eng), with spreads ranging from +518 down to -260. If Kevin wins, the prize is his; otherwise, if Cecil wins, he gets it; if neither of them do, it could be anyone's.

Division B

Daniel Milton (USA) beats Andy Gray (Eng) 378–350, making it interesting for the final round. Andy has a one-game lead, 18–5 +1439, ahead of Daniel, 17 +1295 and Mario Saliba (MLT) 17 +1148.

If Andy wins next, he is the divisional champion. If Daniel wins by 73 points or more and Mario does not beat Ovidiu Tamas (ROM) by more than 219 points, Daniel is the champion; if Mario really outscores Daniel, Mario could end up the champion.

The rating prize race is tight here too, with Paul Mifsud (MLT) and Nancy Alroy (ISR) on 14 wins, and Alfred Xuereb (MLT) and Angele Andrews (MLT) on 13 wins, with none of them playing each other.
