a've had a few inquiries about annotated games at this event: in the past, we have been fortunate enough to get local non-player volunteers to help record every game played at Board 1; and at the EOSC last week, Jim Wilkie brought his experimental Scrabcast rig for live video.

Jim is not here this weekend however, and the volunteer annotators are not available either. If you're reading this, and know of someone who is at the event, perhaps travelling with a player, who would be willing to record the occasional game, please ask them to come find me (John Chew) at the data entry table in the tournament room.

First game in this round: Alfred Xuereb (MLT) 474 Joe Caruana (MLT) 297. In A, Omri Rosenkrantz (ISR) 405, Maureen Hoch (ISR) 388.

Our schedule today is three games, then tea, then four straight games ending around 20:15. It's a warmup for tomorrow's brutal 10-game schedule.

Seen while walking around the room: CLOACALINE# at Board 4, played by either Helen Gipson (Sco) or Chinedu Okwelogu (NGA). It means the same as CLOACAL, but more points. I asked afterwards: Helen played CLOACA, Chinedu extended it to CLOACALIN (which he thinks used to be acceptable, but I think he may be confusing with CLOACINAL#/LACONICAL#), then he came back correctly with CLOACA-LINE.

George Newman (Eng) scores a 518–301 win over Mary Morgan (IRL). That's the biggest spread so far in either division.

Howard Wilde (Eng) breaks Femi Awowade's (Eng) 500+ winning score streak, beating him 414–405.

Mario Seychell (MLT) has won two consecutive games by two points, 392–390 against Ovidiu Tamas (ROM) last round, and now 376–374 vs. Gila Blits (ISR).

Undefeated at the end of this round: Sam Kantimathi (USA) +483, Howard Wilde (Eng) +294, Craig Beevers (Eng) +290 and Chinedu Okwelogu (NGA) in A; Josephine Mayo (MLT), Daniel Milton (USA) and Mario Seychell (MLT) in B.
