The Championship Division is beginning with a 15-round round robin, in which top seed Nigel Richards (NZL) faces each of his opponents in increasing order of tournament rating, from Ewa Kondracka (POL) all the way up to Helen Gipson (Sco). Nigel beats Ewa 454-324, not a bad showing at all for a 1200-rated player.

The Recreational Division starts with a 14-round double round robin. Top seed Suzanne Dundas (NLD) beats Zaffar Mahmood (AUT) 405-200, but Pam Morris (AUT) leads on spread with a 436-196 victory over Suzanne's husband Paul Dundas (NLD).
