    CHAMPIONSHIP

Nigel Richards (NZL) wins 501-428 against Helen Gipson (Sco) at Board 1. When Weibin Toh (SGP) loses 441-477 to Shanker Menon (IND), Nigel's lead opens to three games (and about 1600 points of spread). With seven games remaining, the other contenders have their work cut out for them keeping Nigel from being Gibsonized.

Actually, I overheard several people saying that they would be best off if Nigel were Gibsonized quickly, so they wouldn't have to risk playing him. This led to a suggestion that he should just have been Gibsonized based on expectation on arrival, paired normally in the round robin, then against the bottom of the field during the Swiss rounds.

Graham Haigh's (Eng) 352-320 win over Theresa Brousson (MLT) this round has the lowest combined score so far, 672.

    RECREATIONAL

Suzanne Dundas (NLD) beats Nancy Alroy (ISR) 477-248, but Pam Morris (AUT) beats Paul Dundas (NLD) 366-297, so Pam stays two games behind Suzanne but Paul falls to three. There are three games left to play, but with Suzanne 848 points ahead of Paul on spread, only Suzanne and Nancy are in contention for the top prize. Peggy Fehily's (DEU) hope of upgrading her class prize to a second place prize are still within reach; although she is in fifth place now, she's only a game and a large amount of spread out of second.
