I've fixed two long-standing issues with TSH. First, the extreme flakiness of the hotel WiFi has made it easy for me to test the robustness of the FTP mirroring script, identifying an issue most recently reported by Vince Castellano (Washington, DC), where dropping the connection in the middle of an upload causes the script to crash. Second, many people have asked me if the coverage index could list the most recent rounds first, to make it easier to see the most interesting parts quickly on a mobile device; this is now a configuration option, in use at this event. First off to lunch today is Ruth MacInerney (Eng), after a 412-399 win over Evelyn Wallace (Eng). Both are now 5–5. Esther Perrins (AUS) will most likely retain her lead going into lunch, as she has a win and 577 points of spread on her opponent this round, second-place Craig Beevers (Eng). If she loses though, there could be as many as four players on 8–2. Esther has earned her +1333 by having the most 500+ games so far (four), including the highest single game score of 598. At the other end of the field, Claire Violett (Eng) owes the lowest spread in the tournament (she is 2–8 -1174) to having had four opponents score 500+ against her, though she's had at least one high-scoring win herself. Helen Gipson (Sco) beats Tony Sim (SGP) 481-368 to rise to second place for the moment, 8–2 +646. Siu Hean Cheah (SGP) beats Howard Wilde (Eng) 498-440, and is now 8–2 +533. In the end, Esther wins 467-440 to stay a game ahead of the field, widening her spread lead to 714, with a record going into lunch of 9–1 +1360. Five players are on 7–3: Mikki Nicholson (Eng), Craig Beevers (Eng), Nuala O'Rourke (NIr), Wilde and Brid Ni Bhriain (IRL). Lunchtime! |
