Another on-time start on this third of four days of play. We play another nine games today, then conclude with an eight-game schedule tomorrow before taking a three-day sightseeing break leading up to the Malta International Scrabble Open. Dan Sandu (ROM) hasn't shown up yet for his game with Sam Kantimathi (USA), we're hoping because of Sunday morning transit schedules. Dan Sandu (ROM) has run out his 25-minute clock, and has forfeited his game; Sam gets an unrated 75-point win. First rated result of the day: Evelyn Wallace (Eng) 547, Marion Loewenstein (ISR) 232. Geoff Cooper (Eng): "After 3 mediocre opening moves, I changed all seven and obviously my luck as well, rattling off 33, 73, 54, 85, 66 to leave Andy Gray (Eng) floundering." Geoff won his game 474-347. Dan Sandu (ROM) has arrived in time for Round 2. Some etiquette tips for players winning their first tournament game, uncertain about how to physically submit their result slip to the data entry person. Do not (1) put the slip behind the laptop, the only place in the room that the data entry person cannot see; (2) put it facedown on the pile of entered slips; (3) leave it on your playing table; (4) put it on top of the slip currently being entered. Ideally, do place it (1) faceup, (2) oriented so the data entry person can read it easily, (3) if there is room, in an empty space on the table, and if not, beneath an unentered slip. If there is a receptacle designated for entry slips, put it in there, in the same orientation as the one below it, if there is one. Helen Gipson (Sco) beats Mikki Nicholson (Eng) 436–384; Craig Beevers (Eng) beats Tony Sim (SGP) 432–326. Helen, 13–3 +980, maintains her one-game lead over Craig, 12&ndash4 +1334; Craig opens a one-game lead over Mikki, Siu Hean Cheah (SGP), Tony, and Theresa Brousson (MLT). Mohammad Sulaiman (ARE) leads Class B, 10–6 +411; Brid Ni Bhriain (IRL) leads Class C, 10–6 +230. |
