Geoff Cooper (Eng) opened his Board 12 game against Ossie Mair (USA) by drawing E, E, E, I, L,... blank, blank for an easy opening bingo (EELIEst).

At Board 1, top-ranked Esther Perrins (AUS) was playing fourth-ranked Mikki Nicholson (Eng) to try to keep a one-game lead. She bingoe-ed four times to Mikki's five, but the last one didn't stay on the board, and she went down 456-575, the first thousand-pointer so far. I'll post a photo of the board this round, and a full annotated game after hours tonight. Mikki didn't even have the high game of the round though, as Theresa Brousson (MLT) trounced clubmate Mario Saliba (MLT) 577-345 at Board 9.

The third-biggest upset of the event so far was at Board 17 this round, where Dave Hoskisson (Eng) beat Sandy Nang (USA) 516-313.

Helen Gipson (Sco) and Siu Hean Cheah (SGP) were one game behind Esther and playing each other, so after Esther lost, the winner would catch up on wins. That was Helen, whose 466–373 win gave her 9–2 +739 to Esther's +1236. Four players are on 8–3: Mikki Nicholson (Eng) +940, Craig Beevers (Eng) +869, Howard Wilde (Eng) +605 and Cheah +440.
